Market Structure & Cycles

Course Description

How Prices Actually Get Made

You have learned what crypto is, how blockchains work, and how to think about investing and risk. This course is about something different: how crypto markets actually behave. Not in theory, but in practice. How prices form. Who is buying and selling and why. Why markets move in patterns that repeat over time. Why timing the market is so much harder than it sounds. And why the stories you hear about people who made fortunes in crypto are a very incomplete picture of what really happened.

Understanding market structure is useful regardless of whether you decide to invest in crypto. It gives you a way to read what is happening in financial markets with clear eyes rather than through the lens of excitement or fear. It helps you understand why prices do what they do, and why the most obvious-looking opportunities are so rarely as straightforward as they appear.

A Note on What This Course Is

This course is descriptive rather than prescriptive. It describes how markets work and behave rather than telling you what to do with that information. The goal is clarity about the environment you are operating in, which is more valuable than any specific strategy because it helps you evaluate strategies for yourself rather than relying on what someone else tells you.

Course Outcomes

What You Will Learn

Chapter 1: How Crypto Markets Function Where crypto is bought and sold, how prices form, and what order books, spreads, and market makers actually are.

Chapter 2: Liquidity and Volatility Why these two concepts are deeply connected, and why they matter more than most people realise when deciding what and when to buy or sell.

Chapter 3: Market Participants The different types of people and organisations active in crypto markets, what they want, and how their behaviour shapes prices.

Chapter 4: Narratives and Cycles Why crypto markets move in recognisable cycles, and how stories drive prices just as much as fundamentals do.

Chapter 5: Bitcoin's Role in the Market Why Bitcoin's price behaviour affects almost everything else in crypto, and what that means for how you think about the market as a whole.

Chapter 6: Why Timing Is Hard The honest reasons why buying low and selling high is much harder in practice than it sounds in theory.

Chapter 7: Survivorship Bias Why the crypto success stories you hear most often are a misleading picture of what the market is actually like for most participants.
